Journalist convicted of treason
On July 25th 2025, the Brest Regional Court of Belarus convicted a Belarusian journalist of high treason (literally ‘treason against the state' (Article 356, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus)) and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of 21,000 Belarusian rubles (approximately $ 7,000).
Another source indicates that the conviction was also for disclosure of state secrets.
However, the disposition of Article 356, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus defines treason precisely as disclosure of state secrets, among other things.
Unfortunately, the circumstances of the case are unknown.
